I’ve always been a tea drinker, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that I became a loyal loose-leaf tea drinker! I can’t remember the last time I had tea from a tea bag; actually, yes I can! It was a couple weeks ago at a friend’s house. But, in my house, we don’t do tea bags.
At first, I switched to loose leaf tea, because I had been told that tea bags often have small slivers of metal in them. However, through my own follow up research, I found this to be mostly untrue. While there are trace elements of minerals, such as metal, it’s much more complex than what I had previously thought.
Please note, I’m certainly no expert in this field, so this post contains my personal opinions and thoughts on tea consumption.
Regardless, the therapeutic benefits I receive from drinking tea outweigh the concern over potential “heavy metal contamination”. I find the process of preparing my loose leaf tea to be extremely meditative.

Using a bamboo tea strainer, I typically have one mug of green tea in the morning, and one mug of herbal tisane in the evening. I have mint, lemon balm, and lemon verbena in my herb garden, so those often find themselves, along with fresh ginger and turmeric, mixed in with the tea blends I purchase from an organic tea shop near my house.

My goal is to eventually grow all the herbs I use in my tea and tisane blends 🙂
